IMT Analytics Chooses Pinellas County, Florida for U.S. Expansion

Swiss biomedical testing device company IMT Analytics, Inc. has expanded its operations into the U.S with a new sales and service center in St. Petersburg, Florida. The area’s established Life Sciences & Medical Technologies industry base, excellent workforce potential, and readily accessible Tampa International Airport made the Pinellas County location an easy choice. IMT Managing Director Daniel Benz attests, “This is the perfect fit for us, and we are excited to launch our U.S. expansion in the city of St. Petersburg!”

When IMT first began looking at locations in the U.S., the company focused on certain criteria to meet its needs: time zone – as close as possible to its headquarters in Switzerland, availability of direct flights from Zurich, business climate and fit for a medical devices company, and overall business and tax climate. Florida quickly made the shortlist and the search narrowed when the company learned of Florida’s High-Tech Corridor and the Tampa Bay region’s numerous and diverse medical device manufacturers. Brent Barkway, Economic Development Manager with Pinellas County Economic Development explains, “Florida boasts the second-largest medical device manufacturing industry in the U.S. and is ranked in the top five states for largest biotech R&D. Locally, nearly half of all life sciences companies in the Tampa Bay region are located here in Pinellas County. We knew we had the ideal location for IMT’s expansion needs.”

Daniel Benz worked closely with Pinellas County Economic Development (PCED) and the St. Petersburg Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to identify and address what IMT needed to make a U.S. location work. The two organizations partner to provide companies like IMT with industry and demographic data, site location assistance, community information, and tools and resources available to fuel business growth. “We introduced IMT to the City of St. Petersburg so Daniel could learn about programs like grants for job creation and talent attraction,” says St. Pete EDC Vice President of Marketing & Communications Anne Core. “Working with our partners at PCED, we helped Daniel and IMT explore the benefits of starting a new business venture in Florida.”

IMT specializes in developing, manufacturing, selling, and servicing biomedical testing devices, and is known globally for the high quality and dependability of its products and services. Innovation is a hallmark of IMT’s business model, and the decades-old company prides itself on its ability to adapt to emerging customer needs rapidly. Its new U.S. sales and service center in Pinellas County will be equipped with a calibration laboratory offering domestic calibration and repair services for all of its products. “Support for our U.S. distributors and end users will be better than ever,” explains Benz. “We are very excited about our U.S. expansion. We feel very welcomed as a new business here in St. Petersburg and look forward to working within the area’s thriving life sciences industry.”

PCED Director Dr. Cynthia Johnson extends her warm welcome to IMT on behalf of Pinellas County, sharing, “I am delighted to welcome Daniel Benz and the IMT team to Pinellas. Our team works tirelessly with partner organizations like the St. Pete EDC to foster a collaborative approach to business recruitment because we know that working together greatly increases our mutual chances of success. Pinellas County offers an excellent and unique blend of robust biomedical industry, substantial infrastructure, and superb quality of life and it’s very fulfilling to see a trailblazing innovator like IMT Analytics select our location as the best fit for its U.S. expansion. We look forward to helping the company succeed and grow in our Ideal Business Climate.”
