Industry Overview
Pinellas County Information Technology (IT) companies are on the rise, with approximately 11,500 employees working for 1,000 IT Companies.  These jobs are found in the software development, telecommunications, data processing, graphic & web design, computer & office machine repair, computer equipment and software wholesalers, electronics, internet publishing, broadcasting & web search portals, programming services, system design services, and computer facility management services and are affiliated with nearly all industry sectors, such as:  Financial, Technology, Defense & Homeland Security, Logistics & Distribution, Advanced Manufacturing, Aviation & Aerospace.

Workforce
Pinellas County Schools have formalized programs beginning in middle school and moving up through Career Academies at the high school level. Pinellas County Schools Career Academy for Technology is at Northeast High School and The Graphic Arts & Web Development Academies are located at Dixie Hollins High School. IT Training continues locally through St. Petersburg College (SPC), Pinellas Technical College (PTC) and University of South Florida and the University of Tampa.  Internships are available through SPC and PTC to help students gain experience, and grants are available to local companies interesting in hiring interns.

 

Vology, one of the nation's largest managed IT services providers, today announced the company hired 80 new staff members in 2016 and expects to add an additional 200 positions over the next 2-4 years as it continues its steady growth.
