Mission and purpose
The Pinellas County Economic Development Council serves as a resource to advise, develop and implement strategies and programs to stimulate economic expansion, trade and investment for the benefit of the citizens of Pinellas. This group of business leaders addresses and monitors such areas as business recruitment, business assistance, workforce development, infrastructure requirements, marketing, communication and research, and education and training.
How members are selected, appointed and approved
The Pinellas Board of County Commissioners appoints the members of the Pinellas County Economic Development Council from among individuals who are nominated by businesses, business organizations, business trade associations, and the Board of County Commissioners.
Members of the Council are owners of businesses, CEOs, presidents, and other executives who have optimal management or policy responsibility, are involved in private business and industry in Pinellas County and have demonstrated dynamic and ongoing leadership in building the economy of Pinellas County.
Members are appointed from target industry clusters in Pinellas County representing both major and small businesses from all geographical areas of the County. Pinellas' Target Industries include: Advanced Manufacturing, Aviation & Aerospace, Business & Financial Services, Information Technology, Life Sciences & Medical Technologies.
The members of the Council serve for terms of two (2) years and may be appointed for successive terms to the Council. The Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners of Pinellas County serves on the Council as the Chair. The Chair appoints a Vice-Chair from private business and industry in Pinellas County.
The Council gathers quarterly at a breakfast meeting from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
