On March 30, 2012 ConMed Linvatec celebrated the grand opening of its new Center for Orthopaedic Education in Pinellas County, Florida.  The 16,000-square-foot training facility will provide advanced surgeon education, surgical skills training and professional development on the company’s existing medical device development and manufacturing operations.  The expansion is expected to have an economic impact of nearly $2.8 million.  “We expect to draw even more surgeons from around the world with this larger, more robust state-of-the-art training facility,” explained ConMed Linvatec President Joe Darling. “Innovation has long been a hallmark of our business success and this new enterprise will encourage future product developments.” 
 

IRX Therapeutics, Inc., a leading research and development firm specializing in immune therapies designed to treat cancer and related diseases, recently announced its relocation to St. Petersburg, Florida.  The growing company expects to create 283 jobs with an average salary of over 200% of the Pinellas County average wage over the next six years.  “I am thrilled to welcome IRX to the Pinellas County business community,” shares Pinellas CountyCommission Chair Susan Latvala.  “Projects like this illustrate our region’s attractiveness to the life sciences industry and underline the high-wage job creation associated with business attraction efforts.”
