Pinellas County Job Corps Construction Contract
is a $10 million Opportunity for Local Companies

CLEARWATER, Florida – September 26, 2007 – The U.S. Department of Labor posted a Pre-solicitation Notice announcing that the agency will begin accepting bids to construct the new Pinellas County Job Corps Center through November 1, 2007 at 2:00 p.m.

Commissioner Robert B. Stewart, Vice Chairman of the Pinellas Board of County Commissioners (BCC), stressed the significance of the Job Corps Center to the county and encouraged eligible local companies to get involved.

“The estimated cost range for the construction of the Pinellas County Job Corps Center is over $10 million. This represents a significant opportunity for local companies and our economy. We’d like to encourage all qualified Pinellas contractors to consider being a part of this important community project,” said Commissioner Bob Stewart.

The project involves the construction of the new Job Corps campus in St. Petersburg, which will support approximately three hundred students and staff. The campus will include nine buildings that total approximately 166,000 gross square feet. The Job Corps Center will be located within the Dome Industrial Park Project in Mid-town, St. Petersburg, at the corner of 5th Avenue South and 22nd Street South.

Plans for the campus include structures for administration and security; student services and career counseling; vocational education and vocation shops; a cafeteria; a two-story dormitory; a gymnasium; and maintenance and operations functions. The project will also include a parking lot for visitors and staff, as well as significant landscaping. The work involves general construction, site work, electrical, mechanical, HVAC and miscellaneous other applicable trades.

Small businesses, especially those registered as HUB-Zone, disabled veteran-owned, woman-owned, small disadvantaged businesses and 8(a) businesses are encouraged to apply.

Plans and specifications will be available today from the office of Renker Eich Park Associates. All requests for these plans must be submitted in writing to Mr. Paul Renker, Renker Eich Park Associates, 1609 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North, St. Petersburg, FL  33704-2403. One complete set of the plans and specifications will be made available on a first-come, first-serve basis until the initial supply is exhausted. A pre-bid walk-through is scheduled for October 11, 2007 at 10:00 a.m.

Description:     The work involves the construction of a new Job Corps campus to support approximately 300 students and staff and is comprised of nine (9) buildings, a parking lot for staff and visitors, and significant landscaping.  The 9 buildings will total approximately 166,000 gross square feet to be located on a site of 18 acres owned by the U. S.  Department of Labor, and will consist of     the following: an Administration and Security Building; a Student Services and Career Counseling Building; a Vocational Education Building; a Vocation Shops Building; a Cafeteria Building; Two 2 ?story Dormitory Buildings; a Recreation and Gymnasium Building; and a Maintenance and Operations Building.  The work involves general construction, site work, electrical, mechanical, HVAC and miscellaneous other applicable trades.  The Period of Performance begins within 14 calendar days from receipt of notice to proceed and shall be complete it within 514 calendar days.  Substantial completion shall be within 448 calendar days.  The estimated cost range is over $10,000,000.  Plans and specifications will be available on September 26, 2007, ONLY from the office of Renker Eich Parks Architects, 1609 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33704-4203.  Contact Mr. Paul Renker at (727) 821-2986 for additional information regarding this project.  Collect calls will not be accepted.  Plans and specifications MUST be submitted in writing and directed to the A/E firm listed above to ensure proper handling of requests.  Requests must be accompanied by a $200.00 refundable bid-deposit in the form of a certified check, cashiers check, or money-order made payable to the U.S. Department of Labor.
