2006 Biennial Business Survey. The 2006 Business Survey is PCED’s fifth biennial survey. Questionnaires were mailed to 10,000 businesses in August, 2006 and the response rate was 20%. Findings indicate that Pinellas County businesses continue to prosper, with about four-fifths (79%) rating their individual business performance as excellent or good. 76% agree that the future for business in Pinellas is very bright. Almost half (48%) expect next year’s revenues to be better than this year, and 28% expect to increase their employment in the next year. At the same time, the business community faces several challenges that temper its optimism. Businesses are less upbeat about the condition of their industries, with 30% reporting that their industry is in worse condition now than a year ago. The 2006 survey also points to an increasingly important role of electronic communications in how Pinellas County firms conduct business: 60% have a company website, an increase of 9% since 2004.
