Pinellas County, the City of Clearwater and Enterprise Florida, Inc. have partnered to facilitate the corporate relocation of EarthWorks Environmental  Inc. to Clearwater, Florida.  Earthworks, currently located in Sacramento, California, will complete its relocation in the first quarter of 2006.

“The company, focused on manufacturing high tech soil remediation equipment, could not have found a community more appropriately suited for them.” stated Danielle Ruiz of Pinellas County Economic Development.

“Florida’s strong life sciences sector, manufacturing infrastructure, and the region’s competitive cost of living all entered into our decision to move.  Add to that, the personal quality of life available for myself and the families of our employees and the decision to locate to Clearwater was easy.” shared Jonathan Brewer, President and Founder  of EarthWorks.

Diesel fuel, gasoline, dicholoroethylene, Isoprenoids, Methylene Chloride and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons are just a few of the 150 identified substances Earthworks patented Matrix Enhanced Treatment System (METS) Remediation Process Equipment can quickly and cost effectively eliminate from contaminated sites.  Founded in 1996 and incorporated in 1998, Earthworks has retained its foundation in research and development and grown into a successful business model that promotes a commercialized, reliable and cost efficient ex-situ soil remediation process to its licensees.  The company offers a “turn key” solution by providing the equipment, licenses, supplies, training and support for its METS technology.

Earthworks’ remediation technique has been approved by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and Jonathan sees Clearwater as an excellent base for projects and one that allows him to assist new licensee firms around the State.  EarthWorks’ plan for growth includes increasing international exports to Central and South America while continuing to expand its network of qualified businesses.

“We are looking forward to identifying a local licensee for referrals and to test our ever expanding product line.  We have been contacted regarding several Florida projects, but have not yet identified a qualified licensee in Florida for these assignments.  I hope that will change once we get up and running in 2006,” Brewer shared.

“I attended the Florida Brownfields Conference in Jacksonville last month to learn more about the industry in Florida.  I liked what I saw.  Florida’s commitment to improving the environment, while encouraging investment in redevelopment and jobs, really fits into our business model,” Brewer continued.

In fact, EarthWorks has selected a site on Lakeview Road in downtown Clearwater, and appropriately, Jonathan is putting his money where his mouth is; the company’s new home is located in a Brownfield Area and inside the city’s Enterprise Zone.  The company will take advantage of Florida’s Qualified Targeted Industry Tax Refund and Brownfield Redevelopment Bonus incentives, as a result of creating twenty new qualifying jobs in one of the State’s targeted industries, manufacturing.

Jonathan is confident in EarthWorks’ choice to relocate to Clearwater; “The State of Florida, Pinellas County and the City of Clearwater have made it clear that relocating my company to Clearwater means we will be well placed for expansion and growth.  I’m convinced we have made the right decision and I can’t wait to get started.”
