Florida High Tech Corridor's research study shows impact of high tech employment in Florida to be nearly $17 billion in wages in 2000: Comparing total wages for tourism of $9.582 billion to high tech's total wages of $16.829 billion, Florida's high tech industry generates nearly twice the economic impact of the state's tourism industry, according to a study just released by the Florida High Tech Corridor Council and conducted by Real Estate Research Consultants of Orlando who are exclusively responsible for this analysis and interpretation. The study shows average annual wages per tourism job to be $25,600 and per high tech job, are $52,400. Statewide, total public marketing and support expenditures per tourism employee in 2000 were $319 and per high tech employee, were $103. The increase in overall public marketing and support expenditures per job, 1995 vs. 2000, was $842 in tourism and $92 in high tech. In 2000, total statewide tourism employment was 374,000, while high tech companies employed 321,0000. In addition to the Florida High Tech Corridor Council, this survey was conducted with the support of the Florida Economic Development Council, Economic Development Commission of Mid-Florida, University of Central Florida, Tampa Bay Partnership and Enterprise Florida.
