Wall Street in Pinellas: Did you know that NexTrade, a Clearwater-based stock trading network and the only one outside of Wall Street, has taken advantage of a Qualified Target Industry (QTI) Tax Refund Program and received a $300,000 award to add 40 new jobs. NexTrade, located in a city Enterprise Zone and a Brownfield redevelopment area, has created a 24-hour electronic market place that unites buyers and sellers of stocks worldwide. What's up? Pinellas Business Monitor quarterly results: Second quarter highlights from the Business Assistance Monitor, which surveyed 280 primarily small firms in Pinellas, show that 43% say their current revenues are better than last year, compared to 45% in the first quarter, and 36% in the fourth quarter of 2001. Businesses are becoming more optimistic about the future. Seventy-three percent think their business next year will be even better than this year. Their entire industry will perform better next year say 52% of those surveyed, compared to 43% who thought so in the first quarter. Three new information search categories just added to Pinellas Networking Directory: If your business or manufacturing company is vendor approved, has a quality certification, and/or wants to list a business certification/professional affiliation, you may now add that information to your Networking Directory listing on Economic Development's website - www.siliconbay.org. New companies now have the option of including that information and businesses already listed in the directory are encouraged to update their descriptions. The directory was produced at the request of local businesses. $31 million in aid awarded to St. Petersburg College students: 22,226 individual SPC students received financial assistance awards totaling $31 million during the 2001-2002 school year. Ray Pranske, director of Scholarships and Student Financial Assistance, attributed these striking new highs to the troubled economy generating increased requests for student financial aid.
